When you add a domain as hosted in some account, you typically set a pair of Name Servers to point it to that specific service provider. On their end, 3 records are created automatically right after the Internet domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The first one is a numeric address, or IP address, which “tells” the domain where its site is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they reveal the server that manages the e-mails for that specific domain. The website and the email hosting are generally regarded as one thing, when they are in fact two different services. Having separate records for them will enable you to have them with different providers if you would like. For example, some new company can have fantastic uptime for your site, but you might not want to switch your e-mail messages from your current host and by using an A record to point the domain to the first and MX records to have the e-mails with the latter, you will get the best of both companies. These records are checked when you wish to open a website or send an email - either way, the company whose name servers are used for the domain is going to be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you've set records different from their own, the right web/mail server will then be contacted and you are going to see the needed website or your e-mail will be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting account with our company and you want to move either your website or your emails to another service provider, it is going to take you literally only 2 mouse clicks to do this. Our Hepsia Control Panel comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you will be able to see and edit the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you decide to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the standard 2, it won't take more than a few mouse clicks either to add them. You could also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a particular MX record is going to have. The propagation of any record that you change or set up will not take more than a few hours and if required, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that indicates how long a record will stay active after it's changed or deleted.
