Established in 2001, the Dot NAME generic top-level domain name extension is the only one meant for personal websites only. These domains can consist of personal or fictional names, aliases and/or other designations people are popular by. Initially, solely third-level registrations were possible, so if you desired to purchase john.doe.name, you were supposed to do that under .doe.name.
